Coarse Fishing Tackle throughout the UK: Kinds Involved

Throughout the UK, the phrase coarse fish identifies any kind of freshwater fish apart from trout, salmon and char. Kinds include bream, barbel, chubb, carp, dace, ide, pike, perch, rudd, roach, zander, Wels catfish, and tench. Many anglers who search for these types of fish employ special coarse fishing tackle and think of themselves as specimen hunters. According to Wikipedia (paraphrased):

The phrase "coarse fishing" began in the united kingdom in the early 1800s. Previous to that time, recreational fishing was an activity of the well-to-do, who fished for salmon and trout which they named "game fish". Various other fish had been cast off as "coarse fish."
