Reviews of the Garmin Forerunner 405CX

Real Reviews Submitted by Real Users!

After just a couple of uses I am determined to use this watch whenever I go on my runs in the future.  Most of the time I use it for analysing my performance after I've finished.  Since it enables me to keep an eye on my heart rate as well as chart my runs and the distance I've covered it is very useful.  Even though I am surrounded by tall buildings I still enjoy GPS reception which was one of my concerns when I was looking to purchase one of these devices.  It can take some time to get a GPS lock but once this is secured it remains consistent throughout my routine.

I find that using touch technology was not a good idea and buttons would have been preferable.  I am fortunate in that I don't use the touch bezel while I'm running and only do so either prior to starting or once I've finished.  Still, this is not a major drawback.  It works well.

The heart rate monitor is excellent.

My main gripe is that there is no software included with the watch when it is bought.  The only thing is a CD user's manual.  If you want the software it can be downloaded off the internet free of charge from their website.  Although this isn't a big problem I would rather have been able to conserve my 100+MB of download because the software is included on the CD.

The ANT+ technology also works well and automatically syncs from the watch to the PC.  I think you can do the same vice versa but I do not know for absolute certain.

For runners this is a very useful tool to have.  Being able to plan your route and have them saved on your PC in order to track your times, heart rate and pace is excellent for determining if there is any improvement.  If not it helps you to determine where you need to put in more effort.

As a gift it is great!  There is also a website feature that the information uploads and it shows precisely the distance I need to go, where the run occurred, how fast the workout was, allows me to compile graphs to determine pace based upon running time and miles covered instead of useless information such as how long I was immobile because I was at a stop light!  One of the best features are the maps.  People who use KM will be able to alter it without need to look at the directions and therefore this means it is simple to use.  Workouts can be programmed enabling the watch to beep to aid with interval training.  It doesn't matter where you are in the world it will still work and you will be able to enjoy all the features.

Having logged around 150 miles with my device thus far I can honestly say that I really like it but then I have yet to compare it with others.  I think it works very well and the features are definitely appreciated.  I like uploading my results to my PC and/or on the Garmin Connect website.  Although it isn't the simplest to use because it is capable of doing so much there are still loads of options available.  I still need to customize to my individual tastes and needs but so far I have no real complaints and don't regret the purchase in the least.
