1.1 While you are running you are able to lock the bezel touch wheel, which is itself great, simply by
simultaneously pressing the 2 buttons on the side, however if you have completed the setup properly you don't need
to use it while running anyway.
1.2 Although some have moaned about ‘limited data' showing on the display this is not entirely accurate.
But going to the Data Field setting you can arrange for a total of three different displays with up to three
different items also displayed which means you have a total of 35 different types of displays. In other
words, if you have the heart rate and virtual partner screen you effectively have five different screens scrolling
simultaneously.
1.3 Auto Scroll is a great feature allowing you to flip through the various screens while you are running
without having to touch the bezel screen.
1.4 Another fantastic feature is the Auto Pause. When you stop running it automatically stops only to
resume when you continue running.
If you are looking for a great all-rounder then this watch is ideal because it really is a total package
boasting all you need.
2. After a full month I have yet to experience any problems with this watch. I am impressed with the
perfect operation of the GPS which loads the satellites very quickly. I determined that it is very accurate
after testing it on a ¼ mile track. If you use a track or you run alone you will find that the auto laps
counter and virtual runner are excellent features to have at your disposal. Downloading onto a computer is
simple and statistics are very useful.
3. I initially had a 305 but found it to be too big and bulky and so I returned it and purchased the 405 with
which I am very happy. Besides having a better appearance it weighs less and you aren't made to feel like you
have a PDA on your wrist. If you love gadgets nearly as much as I do you shouldn't have too much trouble
becoming accustomed to the touch dial. Once you have it wired its really simple to use. Unfortunately
the MAC compatibility is not yet handled and when contacted their support team don't have much to say. I did
enquire about the fact that there is a statement on their website that claims the mac software would be available
in 4th Q 2008. In response they apoligized and said they did not have a set date decided. I then
enquired if they would meet the 12/31 deadline and they offered no response.
On the whole I'm pleased with my purchase. There haven't been any problems involving accuracy with the GPS
and thankfully the battery life is also good, better than on my iPhone. Provided you don't do very long runs
there should be no problem.
4. I have used it four times total and I have found that getting used to the menu on the Garmin takes some
time. But it isn't difficult to do. When it comes to measuring distance the GPS is highly accurate.
Because you can upload your data to the training centre on your PC you will be able to determine whether you ran
two laps differently.
For runs between two and three miles the heart rate monitor is great. For short runs I don't mind the fact
that it is somewhat uncomfortable.
Up to now I think this is a great product. Right now I'm in training for a half-marathon and have found it
to be very useful in my training.
